About this package

Kinnaur Kailash Tour Package from Delhi is a 7 nights 8 days plan covering Shimla, Kalpa and Kinner Kailash trek camps. Your stay includes rooms on twin sharing with breakfast and dinner, a private car for transfers and sightseeing, and a day-wise itinerary that you can change to suit your dates, group and budget. The trip starts and ends in Delhi with door-step pick-up, so you do not need to book separate tickets for the road journey. The Kinnaur road runs along the Sutlej river and is long and winding, so the plan keeps the drives realistic and the stays unhurried.

Shimla is the old summer capital of British India, and the Kinnaur road starts here and follows the Sutlej valley into the mountains. Kalpa is a quiet Kinnaur village at about 2,960 m, known for its apple orchards, old temples and views of the Kinner Kailash range, and it is a gentle first step up in altitude. The Kinner Kailash yatra is a high-altitude pilgrimage trek to a tall natural rock pillar worshipped as a Shivling, run only on the dates announced each year.

Day-wise itinerary

7 nights 8 days: Shimla (1N) + Kalpa (1N) + Kinner Kailash trek camps (3N) + Kalpa (1N) + Shimla (1N). Tap a day to open it.

Day 1 Delhi to Shimla

Early-morning pick-up from Delhi (hotel, railway station or airport). Drive via Panipat, Ambala and Chandigarh to Shimla, about 8 to 9 hours with breaks. Check in and rest. Evening walk on Mall Road, Scandal Point, The Ridge and Christ Church.

Day 2 Shimla to Kalpa via Narkanda

Early start for a long scenic drive of about 8 to 9 hours via Narkanda and Rampur, with tea and meal stops, as the road follows the Sutlej valley into Kinnaur. Reach Kalpa by evening, check in and rest. Evening walk through the village lanes and apple orchards, with views of the Kinner Kailash range when the sky is clear.

Day 3 Kalpa to Tangling and first camp

After breakfast, drive about 1 hour (roughly 20 km) to Tangling village (about 2,150 m), the trailhead. Meet your guide and porters, check your gear and start the climb to the first camp stage, a walk of several hours. Evening in camp with a hot meal and an early night, because the next climb starts before sunrise.

Day 4 Trek to Parvati Kund

A long, steady climb with your guide and porters to the high camp near Parvati Kund, above the tree line. Walk slowly, drink plenty of water and rest often, because this is the stage where the height is felt most. Overnight in camp.

Day 5 Kinner Kailash Shivling and back to camp

Early start for the last, steep stretch to the Kinner Kailash Shivling, a tall natural rock pillar worshipped as a Shivling, at a height above 4,500 m. Spend a short time at the top, then walk back down to camp. Go only if the weather and your health allow, and the guide makes the call. Overnight in camp.

Day 6 Descend to Tangling and drive to Kalpa

Early start to walk down to Tangling, a long descent that is hard on the knees, then drive about 1 hour back to Kalpa. A hot shower, a proper meal and rest. Evening walk through the village lanes and apple orchards, with views of the Kinner Kailash range when the sky is clear.

Day 7 Kalpa to Shimla via Rampur

Early breakfast and a long drive of about 8 to 9 hours via Rampur and Narkanda, with meal stops. Reach Shimla by evening, check in and rest. Evening walk on Mall Road, Scandal Point, The Ridge and Christ Church.

Day 8 Return to Delhi

Early breakfast and check-out, then the long drive back to Delhi (about 8 to 9 hours with breaks). Reach Delhi by late evening and drop at your hotel, station or airport.

Travel tips for Kinnaur

  • Carry warm layers even in summer, because nights at Kalpa and Sangla are cold, plus sunscreen, sunglasses and lip balm for the strong sun
  • Carry a valid photo ID for every traveller, and enough cash, because ATMs in the valley can run out of cash and cards are not accepted everywhere
  • Mobile networks are patchy in Kinnaur, so tell family your plan and download offline maps before you leave
  • Mountain roads wind a lot, so carry motion-sickness tablets and some snacks and water for the long drive days
  • Keep one spare day in your plan, because landslides, snow or a damaged road can delay the journey
  • Foreign nationals should check the current permit rules for Kinnaur and Spiti before travelling
  • Packing light helps, because rooms are small and the drives are long
