About this package

Manali to Spiti Valley Tour Packages is a 6 nights 7 days plan covering Manali, Chandratal, Kaza (Spiti Valley), Kalpa and Shimla. Your stay includes rooms on twin sharing with breakfast and dinner, a private car for transfers and sightseeing, and a day-wise itinerary that you can change to suit your dates, group and budget. Spiti is a high-altitude cold desert, so the route you can take depends on the season (see the route table below).

Manali is the usual base on the Kullu side, with the Atal Tunnel, Solang Valley and the cafes of Old Manali, and it is the start of the road over the Kunzum Pass. Chandratal, the Moon Lake, sits at about 4,300 m near the Kunzum Pass and can be reached only in summer, when the road from Manali is open. Kaza is the largest town of Spiti and its base, at about 3,800 m, with a small market, cafes and the roads to Key Monastery, Kibber and the high villages of Langza, Hikkim and Komic.

Day-wise itinerary

6 nights 7 days: Manali (1N) + Chandratal (1N) + Kaza (Spiti Valley) (2N) + Kalpa (1N) + Shimla (1N). Tap a day to open it.

Day 1 Arrive in Manali

Pick-up from Manali bus stand or Bhuntar airport and transfer to your hotel. After check-in and rest, evening at Mall Road and the Tibetan market. Take the first evening easy and drink plenty of water, because the coming days climb to much higher altitude.

Day 2 Manali to Chandratal via Atal Tunnel

Early start (about 7 am) for a drive of about 6 to 7 hours (roughly 115 km) through the Atal Tunnel, Sissu and Gramphu to Batal. The final stretch is a rough track, and vehicles stop short of the lake, so expect a short walk. Overnight in a camp near the lake (tents with beds and blankets; toilet arrangements vary by camp, and nights are near freezing even in summer). Walk to the lake and watch the light change on the water, then a cold, clear night in camp.

Day 3 Chandratal to Kaza via Kunzum Pass

Spend the morning at the lake, then drive back to Batal and over the Kunzum Pass (about 4,550 m) to Losar and Kaza, about 4 to 5 hours on rough road. Stop at the Kunzum temple, then check in at Kaza and rest. Short walk in Kaza town and an early night to adjust to the altitude.

Day 4 Langza, Hikkim, Komic, Key Monastery and Kibber

Early start for a full day in the high villages: Langza and its Buddha statue, the Hikkim post office and Komic, then Key Monastery, Kibber village and the Chicham bridge on the way back. It is a long day at altitude, so we go slowly with tea and rest stops. Ask for a longer plan if you want a gentler pace and a separate Dhankar and Pin Valley day.

Day 5 Kaza to Kalpa via Tabo and Nako

Check out after breakfast and drive about 8 to 9 hours back via Tabo and Nako, with meal stops. The scenery changes from barren mountains to apple country as you reach Kalpa. Check in and rest. Evening walk through the village lanes and apple orchards, with views of the Kinner Kailash range when the sky is clear.

Day 6 Kalpa to Shimla via Rampur

Early breakfast and a long drive of about 8 to 9 hours via Rampur and Narkanda, with meal stops. Reach Shimla by evening, check in and rest. Evening walk on Mall Road, Scandal Point, The Ridge and Christ Church.

Day 7 Departure

Breakfast, check-out and drop at Chandigarh, Kalka or Shimla bus stand and railway station.

Which road is open when

Spiti has two ways in, and only one of them stays open through winter.

ChandratalAbout June to SeptemberNeeds the Kunzum road, and is snowbound in winter

Outside the season we run the same plan out and back through Kinnaur instead, usually at a similar price. Best time to travel

  • Manali: Manali is green and pleasant from March to June, snowy from December to February, and best avoided in heavy monsoon (July-August) because of landslide risk.
  • Chandratal: Chandratal can be reached roughly from June to September, when the Kunzum road is open. It is snowbound and closed in winter.
  • Kaza (Spiti Valley): Kaza is best from June to October, when both the Manali and Shimla roads are usually open. In winter it can be reached only from the Shimla side through Kinnaur, depending on snow, and nights are well below freezing.
  • Kalpa: Kalpa is pleasant from March to June and from September to November. Winters are cold, with heavy snow possible.
  • Shimla: Shimla is pleasant from March to June and September to November. December to February is cold, with a chance of snow (not guaranteed).
SeasonMonthsWhat to expect
SummerJune to SeptemberMain season: both routes usually open, Chandratal reachable and skies clear. The busiest months, so book early.
AutumnOctober to early NovemberClear and colder, with golden valleys. The Kunzum road can close after the first snow.
WinterDecember to MarchShimla and Kinnaur route only. Very cold, with snow, limited stays and a quiet landscape. Sightings of snow leopard are possible around Kibber and Langza but never guaranteed.
SpringApril to MayKinnaur route open and the Manali side usually not yet. Cold, with patches of snow, and quieter.

Spiti itself is a dry rain-shadow valley, but the approach roads, especially in Kinnaur and on the Manali side, can see landslides in July and August.

Travel tips for Spiti Valley

  • Carry warm layers even in summer, because nights at Kaza and Chandratal are close to freezing, plus sunscreen, sunglasses and lip balm for the strong sun
  • Carry a valid photo ID for every traveller, and enough cash, because ATMs in Kaza may be out of order and cards are not accepted everywhere
  • Mobile networks are patchy in Kinnaur and Spiti, so tell family your plan and download offline maps before you leave
  • Mountain roads wind a lot, so carry motion-sickness tablets and some snacks and water for the long drive days
  • Keep one spare day in your plan, because landslides, snow or a damaged road can delay the journey
  • Foreign nationals should check the current permit rules for Kinnaur and Spiti before travelling
  • Packing light helps, because rooms are small and the drive is long

Frequently asked questions

What is the price of the Manali to Spiti Valley Tour Packages?

Indicative prices are ₹15,000 per person for budget stays, ₹20,200 for standard stays and ₹30,600 for premium stays, for two adults sharing a room. The final quote depends on your dates, stay level and group size, so message us on WhatsApp for today's price.

What is included in this package?

Stay on twin sharing, daily breakfast and dinner, a private car for transfers and sightseeing, and driver allowance, fuel, toll and parking. Lunch, monastery fees, activities, permits and personal expenses are extra.

How many days are enough for Spiti Valley?

This plan uses 6 nights 7 days. Kaza needs at least two nights to see the main sights without rushing, and a third night adds Dhankar and Pin Valley. Ask us for a shorter or longer version.

What is the best time to visit Spiti Valley?

June to October is the main season, when both the Manali and Shimla roads are usually open. Winter (December to March) is possible only from the Shimla side and depends on snow and road clearance.

What about altitude sickness?

Kaza is at about 3,800 m, and Chandratal and the passes are higher. Take the first day slowly, drink plenty of water, avoid alcohol, and tell your driver at once if you feel unwell. Check with your doctor first if you have heart, lung or blood pressure problems.

Will the itinerary change with road conditions?

Yes. Landslides, snow and weather can close stretches of road, so the order of days can change. We keep to the safest option and tell you in advance.

Can the itinerary or stays be changed?

Yes. Every plan is flexible. Tell us your dates, group size and budget and we will adjust the stays, nights and sightseeing.

Is Chandratal guaranteed?

No. Chandratal needs the Kunzum road, which is usually open from about June to October, and it depends on snow and weather. If the road is closed we run the plan through Kinnaur instead.

Are ATMs and mobile networks available in Spiti?

Kaza has a few ATMs, but they can run out of cash or stop working, so carry enough cash. Mobile networks are patchy in Kinnaur and Spiti, and some operators work only in Kaza.
