About this package

Spiti Valley Tour Packages from Jaipur is a 6 nights 7 days plan covering Shimla, Kalpa and Kaza (Spiti Valley). Your stay includes rooms on twin sharing with breakfast and dinner, a private car for transfers and sightseeing, and a day-wise itinerary that you can change to suit your dates, group and budget. You travel to Chandigarh or Delhi and our driver takes it from there; the land package starts at your arrival point. Tickets from Jaipur are not part of the package price, and we can help you choose and book them. Spiti is a high-altitude cold desert, so the route you can take depends on the season (see the route table below).

Shimla is the old summer capital of British India, and the Shimla and Kinnaur route starts here and follows the Sutlej valley towards Spiti. Kalpa is a quiet Kinnaur village at about 2,960 m, known for its apple orchards, old temples and views of the Kinner Kailash range, and it is a gentle first step up in altitude. Kaza is the largest town of Spiti and its base, at about 3,800 m, with a small market, cafes and the roads to Key Monastery, Kibber and the high villages of Langza, Hikkim and Komic.

Day-wise itinerary

6 nights 7 days: Shimla (1N) + Kalpa (1N) + Kaza (Spiti Valley) (2N) + Kalpa (1N) + Shimla (1N). Tap a day to open it.

Day 1 Arrive in Chandigarh or Delhi and drive to Shimla

Reach Chandigarh or Delhi from Jaipur (see the travel section below). Our driver meets you at the airport or railway station and drives to Shimla: about 3.5 to 4 hours (roughly 115 km) from Chandigarh or 8 to 9 hours from Delhi, with breaks. Check in and rest. Evening walk on Mall Road, Scandal Point, The Ridge and Christ Church.

Day 2 Shimla to Kalpa via Narkanda

Early start for a long scenic drive of about 8 to 9 hours via Narkanda and Rampur, with tea and meal stops, as the road follows the Sutlej valley into Kinnaur. Reach Kalpa by evening, check in and rest. Evening walk through the village lanes and apple orchards, with views of the Kinner Kailash range when the sky is clear.

Day 3 Kalpa to Kaza via Nako and Tabo

Long day of about 8 to 9 hours through the dry Kinnaur and Spiti landscape, with stops at Nako Lake and Tabo Monastery, one of the oldest monasteries in the region. Reach Kaza by evening, check in and rest. Short walk in Kaza town and an early night to adjust to the altitude.

Day 4 Langza, Hikkim, Komic, Key Monastery and Kibber

Early start for a full day in the high villages: Langza and its Buddha statue, the Hikkim post office and Komic, then Key Monastery, Kibber village and the Chicham bridge on the way back. It is a long day at altitude, so we go slowly with tea and rest stops. Ask for a longer plan if you want a gentler pace and a separate Dhankar and Pin Valley day.

Day 5 Kaza to Kalpa via Tabo and Nako

Check out after breakfast and drive about 8 to 9 hours back via Tabo and Nako, with meal stops. The scenery changes from barren mountains to apple country as you reach Kalpa. Check in and rest. Evening walk through the village lanes and apple orchards, with views of the Kinner Kailash range when the sky is clear.

Day 6 Kalpa to Shimla via Rampur

Early breakfast and a long drive of about 8 to 9 hours via Rampur and Narkanda, with meal stops. Reach Shimla by evening, check in and rest. Evening walk on Mall Road, Scandal Point, The Ridge and Christ Church.

Day 7 Departure

Breakfast and check-out. Drop at Chandigarh airport or railway station (about 3.5 to 4 hours), or at Kalka for the toy train or a train onward. Delhi (about 8 to 9 hours) is possible on request at extra cost. Book onward tickets for the evening or the next day, because mountain roads can be delayed.

Which road is open when

Spiti has two ways in, and only one of them stays open through winter.

RouteUsually openNotes
Shimla, Kinnaur and Kaza (via Kalpa, Nako, Tabo)Most of the yearThe only route that can stay open in winter, though snow and landslides can close stretches for a day or more
Manali, Kunzum Pass and KazaAbout June to OctoberCloses with the first heavy snow, and the dates change every year
ChandratalAbout June to SeptemberNeeds the Kunzum road, and is snowbound in winter

This plan uses the Shimla and Kinnaur route, which is the more reliable choice outside the main summer season. Road dates change every year, so message us your travel dates and we confirm the current status before you book.

Where you will stay

Stays in Spiti are simpler than in other hill stations, and rooms are limited. Areas are indicative and the exact property is confirmed at booking.

Stay levelWhat to expect
BudgetHomestays and guesthouses with clean, basic rooms; bathrooms and hot water can be simple
Standard (most popular)Better hotels and homestays with attached bathrooms, and a room heater or wood stove when cold
PremiumThe best hotels and resorts available at each stop; still simpler than similar hotels in Shimla or Manali

Usual areas: Shimla: Mall Road side, Chhota Shimla, Kufri road; Kalpa: Kalpa and Reckong Peo side, rooms with Kinner Kailash views where available; Kaza (Spiti Valley): Kaza town, near the main market.

Best time to travel

  • Shimla: Shimla is pleasant from March to June and September to November. December to February is cold, with a chance of snow (not guaranteed).
  • Kalpa: Kalpa is pleasant from March to June and from September to November. Winters are cold, with heavy snow possible.
  • Kaza (Spiti Valley): Kaza is best from June to October, when both the Manali and Shimla roads are usually open. In winter it can be reached only from the Shimla side through Kinnaur, depending on snow, and nights are well below freezing.
SeasonMonthsWhat to expect
SummerJune to SeptemberMain season: both routes usually open, Chandratal reachable and skies clear. The busiest months, so book early.
AutumnOctober to early NovemberClear and colder, with golden valleys. The Kunzum road can close after the first snow.
WinterDecember to MarchShimla and Kinnaur route only. Very cold, with snow, limited stays and a quiet landscape. Sightings of snow leopard are possible around Kibber and Langza but never guaranteed.
SpringApril to MayKinnaur route open and the Manali side usually not yet. Cold, with patches of snow, and quieter.

Spiti itself is a dry rain-shadow valley, but the approach roads, especially in Kinnaur and on the Manali side, can see landslides in July and August.

Travel tips for Spiti Valley

  • Carry warm layers even in summer, because nights at Kaza and Chandratal are close to freezing, plus sunscreen, sunglasses and lip balm for the strong sun
  • Carry a valid photo ID for every traveller, and enough cash, because ATMs in Kaza may be out of order and cards are not accepted everywhere
  • Mobile networks are patchy in Kinnaur and Spiti, so tell family your plan and download offline maps before you leave
  • Mountain roads wind a lot, so carry motion-sickness tablets and some snacks and water for the long drive days
  • Keep one spare day in your plan, because landslides, snow or a damaged road can delay the journey
  • Foreign nationals should check the current permit rules for Kinnaur and Spiti before travelling
  • Packing light helps, because rooms are small and the drive is long

Frequently asked questions

How do I reach Spiti Valley from Jaipur?

Jaipur is a short train, bus or flight hop from Delhi, so many guests meet us in Delhi or Chandigarh. Chandigarh to Shimla takes about 3.5 to 4 hours by road, Delhi to Shimla about 8 to 9 hours, and from Shimla the road runs on through Kinnaur to Kaza.

What is included in this package?

Stay on twin sharing, daily breakfast and dinner, a private car for transfers and sightseeing, and driver allowance, fuel, toll and parking. Lunch, monastery fees, activities, permits and personal expenses are extra. Train and air tickets are not included.

How many days are enough for Spiti Valley?

This plan uses 6 nights 7 days. Kaza needs at least two nights to see the main sights without rushing, and a third night adds Dhankar and Pin Valley. Ask us for a shorter or longer version.

What is the best time to visit Spiti Valley?

June to October is the main season, when both the Manali and Shimla roads are usually open. Winter (December to March) is possible only from the Shimla side and depends on snow and road clearance.

What about altitude sickness?

Kaza is at about 3,800 m, and Chandratal and the passes are higher. Take the first day slowly, drink plenty of water, avoid alcohol, and tell your driver at once if you feel unwell. Check with your doctor first if you have heart, lung or blood pressure problems.

Will the itinerary change with road conditions?

Yes. Landslides, snow and weather can close stretches of road, so the order of days can change. We keep to the safest option and tell you in advance.

Can the itinerary or stays be changed?

Yes. Every plan is flexible. Tell us your dates, group size and budget and we will adjust the stays, nights and sightseeing.

Can I visit Spiti in winter?

Yes, from the Shimla side through Kinnaur, but it is cold and snow can delay the road. We suggest a winter plan with a spare day. See our winter Spiti Valley package for details.

Are ATMs and mobile networks available in Spiti?

Kaza has a few ATMs, but they can run out of cash or stop working, so carry enough cash. Mobile networks are patchy in Kinnaur and Spiti, and some operators work only in Kaza.

Is there a direct flight from Jaipur to Spiti Valley?

No. Spiti has no airport, so most travellers fly to Delhi or Chandigarh, or take a train to Kalka, and continue by road. Check the current schedule before you book, and we will plan the pick-up around your arrival.

Are Jaipur tickets included?

No. The package price covers the land arrangements in Himachal. Tickets from Jaipur are extra, and we can help you choose and book them.
